Fans of Good Morning America coanchor Robin Roberts know that 2022 has been a challenging yet rewarding year for the broadcast star. In February, she announced that her partner, Amber Laign, had been diagnosed with breast cancer and that Roberts would occasionally take time off to care for her.

“She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges, like my journey with cancer,” Roberts said in one of her regular video posts at that time (posted below). “It’s my turn now to be there for her like she was for me.”

Now cancer-free, Roberts learned she had breast cancer in 2007, a fact she shared with the public; five years later, she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood disorder that required a bone marrow transplant.

Last Friday, June 24, Turning the Tables With Robin Roberts on Disney+ won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Informative Talk Show. Her absence at the ceremony left many fans wondering whether she was with Laign, especially given Roberts’s video message a few days earlier (posted below).

Roberts, who is Christian, began the week’s #MondayMotivation post, shared across social media, by reading a passage to her viewers:

“Things may be coming against you, but know this: God did not create you to be overcome, he created you to be an overcomer. Down is not your destiny, and defeat is not how your story ends. If you’re going to come out of that challenge, you to have to stop talking defeat. Quit giving it the power to keep you down. When you declare, ‘I will arise,’ forces of darkness tremble and angels go to work. Get ready to rise!”

She followed the reading with a prayer:

“Thank you for the call to rise up in the midst of our difficulties, to get our hopes up, to start expecting things to change in our favor. Thank you that you created us to be overcomers and seek victory. We declare that we are looking to you and we know that we will rise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Roberts then shared a personal update. “[Sweet Amber] had such a challenging week last week. Thank you for allowing me the time to be with her. But it’s a brand-new week!”

For an extra boost of motivation, Roberts encouraged folks to check out gospel singer Mandisa’s song “Overcomer.” The video, which you can watch below or on YouTube, highlights Roberts’s inspiring story as well as those of others who have triumphed over health challenges.
