Thursday, April 25, is World Malaria Day, a global awareness day for efforts to control the disease. In the past decade, malaria deaths have been cut by one-third in Africa and by 50 percent in 35 out of 53 countries affected by the disease. HIV weakens the immune system’s ability to fight off malaria, while malaria increases HIV viral load.
