Portions Made Easy
If you’re trying to control your portion size and don’t have anything to measure your food with, here are general guidelines to follow. The palm of your hand is about a 3- to 4-ounce serving of meat; your closed fist equals about 1 cup of food; your cupped hand holds about a 1- to 2-ounce serving of nuts or small crackers, or 2 ounces of chips or popcorn; your thumbnail is equal to about 1 teaspoon and your thumb from the tip of the second joint to the end of that finger is equal to a 1-ounce serving of cheese.
